Breakfast Bites: The Middle – (Family) Valentine’s Day

Most people don’t like The Middle. Some of them remember Patricia Heaton from that other family show, Everybody Loves Raymond, especially her incredible harpy-ness and the bad feelings that were brought over from the many years of seeing her with that show. The yelling that people complained about from her in The Middle was addressed in a very funny episode where Frankie (Patricia Heaton), in an attempt to teach her kids what they look like with all of their complaining, finds her own ugliness instead. I’ve found the middle so much fun, from the crazily unrealistic kids who feel very realistic, to her gigantic husband, Mike, who I loved as Janitor on Scrubs. He’s even funier when you understand the words coming out of his mouth.

This episode is kinda why I don’t want to have kids. I know, I know, I’m a Scrooge, but the cats are bad enough. Whenever I try to sit with my Honey and watch some television, here comes a cat trying to horn in. You can push a cat off the couch, but a kid? A kid is forever.

Yet this episode is very well done, from teen aged boys finding out the hard way that they are not that desirable to a daughter learning that she’s just not ready for a boy-girl party to a young, weird child who finally makes friends with an even weirder child, to a couple who can’t find a full two hours to just relax and enjoy themselves on Valentine’s Day. (which, for the record, I hate)

My favourite part of the episode was when they finally make it to the restaurant and are told there is a two hour wait, Mike’s open displeasure for the wait as well as the uncomfortableness of standing in front of the drafty door the entire time. Sue’s blue eyeshadow was a close runner-up. No, Sue, you do not need more eyeshadow. All in all, a very good episode with some good laughs.
